For survivors
Survivors of sexual violence have complex and unique needs. SAFE seeks to meet the individual needs of each of our clients through a combination of advocacy and counseling services. All SAFE services are provided free of charge and are completely confidential. We do not discriminate on the basis of age, race, gender, religion, or sexual identity. All are welcome and all will be supported.
Medical Advocacy
Our medical advocates are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to support survivors as they go through the evidence collection kit following an assault. Having an advocate in the room is always the survivor's choice. Our advocates are trained to understand the entire medical process and can explain all of your options so you can make informed choices.
Legal Advocacy
Legal advocates are available to assist and support you during the entire criminal justice process if you choose to file charges after a sexual assault.
Advocates can:
- Provide information on the progress of the police investigation, court process, and
court dates.
- Provide ongoing contact with police and prosecutors to ensure that you are kept
informed of the progress with the legal process.
- Communicate your needs to the police and state attorney.
- Assist with filing for victim compensation, transportation to court appearances, and
relocation.
- Provide support concerning problems with employers, landlords, housing issues, and
school matters.
- Provide referrals for counseling within SAFE.
- Provide support and informaiton for family members and significant others.
- Assist in obtaining civil no-contact orders when appropriate.
Counseling
There is no right or wrong way to feel after an assault, but sometimes those emotions and symptoms can feel like too much to handle by yourself. You are not alone, and there is nothing wrong with you. If you need support during your healing process, our counselors are here to listen and help. We provide counseling services for clients as young as two years old through senior adults, regardless of how long ago the abuse or assault occurred.
