A Trustworthy Nonprofit That Offers Crisis Intervention

Few times in a person's life are as lonely or as frightening as the days following a sexual assault. At SAFE, we understand that. This is why we offer crisis intervention by phone and in-person, medical and legal advocacy, and personal and emotional support to sexual assault victims and their families. Our organization provides educational resources regarding subjects such as personal safety, dating violence, sexting, and human trafficking, providing essential resources to vulnerable individuals. As a 501(c)(3) sexual abuse nonprofit, we also provide services for sexual assault victims and non-offending family members regardless of age, race, sex, or sexual orientation. Contact us to discuss your needs or make a donation to support our organization today.

You are not alone when you have experienced sexual assault or domestic violence. We can offer personal counseling or a support group that helps survivors break their silence, process their feelings, and begin to heal. We understand that after an abusive encounter, it is natural for an individual to feel vulnerable and confused. When you need help taking the first steps, please call our compassionate team. We offer resources that will help you with how to report domestic violence and sexual assault. When you don’t know where to start, start here. We’ll show you a path towards progress and comfort. Our organization is here to help you.

Help us provide sexual assault
resources and assistance.

Our Founder

While doing her work as Chief Probation Officer of Fayette County, founder Doris Benefiel, saw a need for support services for victims of sexual assault and their families. After exploring possibilities, a core group of eight women from various organizations and professions visited the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault (ICASA) Office in Springfield. SAFE was incorporated in January 1986 as a nonprofit focusing on sexual crisis intervention in Fayette County, IL. Following Doris' lead, we now put our many, many years of experience to work, offering sexual assault help to victims every day. Contact us today to discuss your needs.

Mission Statement

SAFE’s mission is to provide education to the community, advocacy for individuals and families, and empowerment to heal from sexual violence and other traumatic experiences.
