SAFE educators are dedicated to raising awareness and creating positive social change in the communities of our eleven counties. Our prevention education programs provide tools and knowledge to keep students safe in many situations. The educational team creates healthy environments where children feel comfortable and safe to express their concerns and needs.

Educational Legislation Update

House Bill 6913, also known as Erin's Law (signed into law January 24, 2013) requires all public schools to implement age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse prevention curriculum for grades pre-K through 12. The difference between the previous sexual assault law and Erin's Law is the inclusion of pre-K through 5th-grade students.

Public Act 95-764 (signed into law July 29, 2008) makes sexual assault awareness education mandatory for all public high schools, colleges, and universities; effective January 1, 2009. The following requirements must be met:

  1. Public high schools must include sexual assault awareness as part of a comprehensive health education program.
  2. Public universities and colleges must provide a form of sexual assault awareness education to all incoming students. Education can be provided through a seminar; online training; or any other way schools can find to inform students.
